Teacher feedback:

* Great use of institutions history before the present days version of the institution.
* Well used information to back up points seen on board
* Nicely done starter- visual images and class interaction

* Should go in to detail of the current actions of Disney today
* Text colour was off and didn't look appealing
* Add more information about the institutions synergy

My feedback:

WWW:

* Got the class interacted well with the starter activity and was engaged with it
* Knowledge of the institution came out brilliantly
* A lot of information was presented with the use of very few words (20 words maximum per slide)

EBI:

* Add extra (additional information) about the institution on the starter sheet (for classes better understanding)
* Use more information about the institution today (or in the past few years etc)
* Add more visual images on the powerpoint (make use of the space available on the slides

Class presentations

The Gaurdian presentation- I learned that the Guardian news paper focuses on different type of news as well as being one of the fist news paper companies to launch online.

Twitter - I learned that only 4% of twitter tweets are about the news as well as, being founded in 2006.

BBC - The BBC was published/went live in 1922 and the T.V section of the company was the most consumed by viewers and that it is payed for via T.V license.

News Corporation - Partnered with  20th Century Fox and it favours the conservatives (mostly).

My own advert analysis

The Martian Advert Analysis

  • Denotation: The advertisement denotes a space/sci-fi genre due to the title of the film being called "The Martian" as well as the look of the subject of the advert (wearing a space helmet). Its is a film poster due to the bottom of the advert saying "In Cinemas September"
  • Connotation: The advert connotes that the film is about a man who seems to be on a mission however, has crashed landed on Mars and no source of human life. This leads to the man striving to get his message to Earth in order to deploy a new mission to save the man who is now know as The Martian.Furthermore, there is an image of a space ship/rocket on the protagonists helmet also suggesting that this is a film based around the planet Mars.
  • Colour: The colour of the advert seems to blend in with the setting of the poster which is Mars. In addition, all of the advert is of the same shade of colour (deserted orange) to show the setting and mood of the film. The planets colour is mostly deserted and is of an orange colour.
  • Pose: The position of the subject is fairly straight and gives off a sign of direct mode of address towards the audience as he looks directly at the consumers. This suggests that the film can be very interactive towards the audience as well as showing sympathy towards the subject as he is isolated on a planet. Moreover, the position of the subject in the other scene (bottom image) is in a position of walking. This shows a sign of trekking the unknown planet.
  • Framing: The main attention of the advert is the subject as he is seen twice and is what the film revolves around.
  • Composition: the advert seems to organised in a way that the audience should read from top of the advert and gradually make their way to the bottom of the advert. In this case, the consumer would read the tag-line then make their way through the images shown and end at the date of when the film is going to be released. This shows that the advert was designed for the consumer to take little chunks of information about the film at a time.
  • Size: The size of the advert seems to be fairly large considering it is a film advert. In more depth, the image as well as the copy are quite significant. The size of the subject is very big which signifies the characters importance in the film and that he is the main character as well as the the tag-line being fairly big and placed at the top of the advert makes it unmissable for the consumer not to see.
  • Type of shot: Firstly the type of shot for the first image (image of the character) is a close-up, to show the characters significance as well as facial expression. The second image (of the setting) is an extreme wide shot as it is designed to show the theme of the film as well as the sense of the story behind the film. Finally, the image of the space ship seems to be a wide shot as the shape of  a space ship is quite big and takes up the entire shot and a wide shot is a great way to capture the entire shape/view of the rocket.
  • Setting: The film is set on another planet (Mars) as my synopsis of the film as well as the visuals of the advert show that the film is set on a different planet. The setting in this film seems to be of a deserted colour as the advert itself justifies that as well as, the setting having many rocks as dangerous surrounding as we can tell from the background of the setting.
  • Lighting: The lighting fits in greatly with this advert as rays of orange fit in with bright light to give off the effect. However, judging from this poster the light seems to be focused mostly on the subjects face as he is importance but also to grab the consumers attention when looking at the advert. Moreover, the lighting on the subjects face seems to be on the right side as if the boost from the rocket is giving off the effect on the subjects face.
Media Perception

Dominant Reading: The director want's the audience to see this film as one of a kind and wants to show that it is nothing like other films due to the various images used to show the type of film this is and the difference. In addition, it wants to attract a lot of people and so they put the main characters face as the centre of attraction as well as including the characters actual name;"Matt Damon". Furthermore, this advert is showing the uniqueness of the storyline by the use of the tag-line and the impression that the advert is trying to give off. Moreover, the producer wants the consumer to feel that this is an unmissable film due to the various images shown in this advert as well as featuring a famous actor.

Opposite Reading: Some members of the audience may feel that this film is a film that is designed to take money from the public. This could be because of the huge success of Hollywood space films such as, Interstella and Gravity and people may see this film as a competitor or a film that is designed to get the same, if not, higher profit than compared to other films. Moreover, the audience may feel that that the film may be mis-leading to a younger audience. This could be because of the false science behind sci-fi films as well as, people applying that knowledge that they learn to their own life which can have a negative effect of education etc.

RBK Advert Analysis

Analysing RBK Advert

  • Denotation of the advert: is that it shows an image of a famous celebrity known as 50 Cent and, on the right side of the advert has an image of some type of criminal record which could be of relation to 50 Cent himself.
  • Connotation of the advert: is that the poster connotes a violent nature. This is shown from the tone of the advert as well as the images shown. 50-cent is shown as very muscular and seems to reveal a scar on is left arm which suggests violence as well as the criminal record shows the nature of 50 cents past.
  • Colour of the advert: the colour of the advert is very serious and seems dark as if its trying to give off a dangerous/rough mood. The colour of the advert is monochrome which shows that its showing a serious tone however, a more violent tone as well with the use of monochrome related colours. Moreover, the colour seems to be desaturated from its original look to get the poster looking like this.
  • The pose of the protagonist: 50-Cent seems to be posing in a tilted way and has a serious face to correlate to the tone of the poster. Moreover, the clothing that 50-Cent wears gives off the type of advert this is. He wears an army hat which is linked with violence as well as showing his muscular side to show strength and power etc.
  • Framing of the advert: the main attention is 50-cent however, his position in the advert is not in the centre but on the side. Furthermore, the image of his criminal record seems to have more space on the advert than compared to 50 Cent himself. This also connotes that his past is an important part of his life and also to try to tell the audience how "cool" Reebock's products are.
  •  Composition of the advert: is designed to look like it is related to some sort of jail/prison due to the use of a criminal record as well as, no form of background in the image of 50-Cent and this can suggest that he is in a jail room which fits in with the tone of the advert. In addition, this would attract a teenage audience due to the tone being more violent and has 50-Cent as the main attraction which can attract a lot of teenagers.
  • Size of the advert: the size of the advert is large all the main parts of the advert is shown fairly visibly such as the tag-line which is shown as the centre of attraction and is quite large so that the audience can consume the information and can tell what the advert is about. However, the amount of space that 50-Cent has on the advert as compared to the image of a criminal record is smaller.
  • Type of shot of the protagonist: the shot type that has been used is a close up on the top-half of 50 cents body. Also the sot as been used as a direct mode of address to look directly at the audience.
  • Subject matter of advert: is 50-Cent who is a famous rap artist and has a wide range of audience who value is talent and is the subject of the advert. Moreover, RBK seems to not promote a specific product but, the entire brand as they add logo along side 50-Cent which seems to be a way to use the image of 50-Cent to help promote brand.
  • Setting of the advert: seems to be in relation to crime or police as we have an image of a criminal report as well as an image of 50-Cent in a dark room which can possibly be a setting for a jail or prison room to fit in with the criminal record image as well as the tag-line which has a theme of identity showing that 50-Cent believes that his actions in the past made his future.
  • Lighting of the advert: seems to be centralised on 50-Cent. The lighting seems to be focused more on 50-Cent than compared to anywhere else on the advert. The light is to show the facial expression of the subject as well as showing his significance on the advert.
Media Perception

Dominant Reading: The producer of the advertisement intended to attract mostly the fans of 50-Cent as he has a wide audience and can attract many customers. In addition, the use of the finger prints interprets that the producer wanted Rebocks products to look unique to the audience. Moreover, the producer of the advert intended the meaning of the advert to send a message to the audience, to be proud of who they are. In addition, the use of 50-Cent shows the superiority of the Reebock advert and is meant to grab peoples attention.

Oppositional Reading: Viewers who come across this advert may find it as a source of violence or promoting a sense of violence. Most of the poster is to do with violence such as the criminal record image as well as the clothing that 50-Cent in wearing (army hat). In addition, this can give the consumers the impression that 50-Cent is a bad role model. Furthermore, people may see this advert as an exploitation of black people/citizens.
